Nope not millionaire but to afford up to 1000 SEK in road tax per month per Land Rover helps
Welcome to the taxation paradise

One thing though, and that’s the insurance cost. I have a feeling that insurance companies in Blighty are charging heavily, especially if you’re young. For my 110, a full coverage except for self inflicted damage is well under SEK 2000:-/year. But then I’ve seen a few things in my days, live in a small village and park on my own ground…

Thats what I am getting at – at that kind of cost it does not make any financial sense to run or own a modern(ish) Landrover. My 69 evidently will be no problem as I understand it would be tax exempt, but I feel £100 a month to be extorsionate for any vehicle. Here, full-fledged HGVs pay less than that by quite some way, so to pay that for a Landrover is just crazy.

You would be amazed how many of the posh 110CSW are only two-seaters as they ar registerd as Light Truck (LB by Swedish terminology) reducing the tax to half.
But if you are not a pensioned well off guy but with a family with kids it is just rubbish to tax this way.
To alter the motor, remove the seats only at scrutiny, is not a good option as in case an accident or police point check you might regret the fraud heavily.
The truth is that most Defenders or Discos you se are diesel and registered as LB thus having a tax of abt 5000SEK annually.
Diesel would make sense if your milage is abt 20000kms/year.2008-12-10 kl. 18:21 #6560[Originally posted by 22900013a]
I am having some trouble following this, so I will ask a specific question.
What would I pay for
a) Defender 110 2.5 tdi with 2 seats?
b) Defender 110 3.5 V8 with 2 seats? (with lpg if I can get it and certainly for running in the UK)How many seats constitute a truck, 2 or 3?
I would not be removing any seats as the army ones over here only have 2 seats anyway.
Thanks.

Me and my father have both of us a Defender 90 registred as light truck with 3 seats in the front row (No cubby) This shall not be possible any more, the middle seat is not wide enough according to the Bilprovning
As for the tax amount….i dont know if it is different between D90 and D110 but i pay 2878 kr per year and 7500 kr for insurance.

I can answer for the first option – just a little over SEK 5000. It’s paid at three occasions, spread over the year.
Truck or not isn’t a question about seats, it’s about loadspace. But talking Land Rovers I think it can have three seats, the front row. But I might be wrong there. Mine is a 2-seater, ex-MoD, didn’t tried anything else when registering.

I expect then that yours would be closest to whatever I end up buying. IN terms of what I want, I know what body style I want (hardtop, to put a bed in the back) its just engine choice that has me stumped.
As you pay so much road tax, is there any difference (ie saving) in cost of MOT or something?

Don’t get me wrong,I adore Sweden and the people, but this taxation system is insane!

As you can learn from all this regulations, taxes and other general stuff all is amied to see you with the famous SEB on our roads as much as possible.
It is tax free and it is heavy (so you save as much as possible) and it is beauful. No need for the hassle with a 110. Get a Lupo 3L to save fuel for your wonderful 1 Ton.
Hope to see you in Borås, I live not too far from it and there is a site in Borås (Bråt) where the club regularly meet.

Hi.
I got a 130 TD5 whitch i pay about 5000SEK in tax for per year and it’s a 5 seater registers as a light lorry(LB).I also got a Discovery300 tdi that registerd as a car 7 seats (personbil) it cost me in tax and full incurance 18000SEK per year. it’s now registerd as a LB whit 2 seats and it costs me about 6000:- per year as it’s chaper to insure a LB as well.
As you can se everybody just gives you an estemate of what they pay as nobody whants to think about it.
Welcome to the taxation jungel.
I live near Borås as well hope to se you around.2008-12-11 kl. 20:08 #6568[Originally posted by 22900013a]
Thanks guys.
One thing did occur to me today – would a 90 (2 seater, hard top) be significantly cheaper? I ideally want the space of a 110, but would consider the route of a 90 with roof tent. Any thoughts?Glad to know I am not the only one who would be near Boras then. I saw two 110s in Goteborg a couple of weekends ago, and my partner says she regulalrly sees a defender in Boras itself, evidently someone who lives nearby – Sodra Kyrkogatan, anyone nearby?

1725 posted his tax earlier, but I suspect that to be low? 2800 something. Is that really correct being just over 50% of the 110 tax for a 110?
2008-12-11 kl. 20:34 #6570[Originally posted by Tord_Lj]
A 90 is slightly cheaper, to make it easier calculate the weight difference between a 90 and a 110. Is it abt 400-500kg?, the tax is depending on the weight mainly. Then there is 2 deifferent vehicles x 2 different taxation clases (Light Truck = LB or Car = PB).
Sooooooo eaaaaasy, doh!
