Dear Forum,
I am a new member, recently moved to Sweden from the US, who would like to purchase a used 300tdi from the uk and register it in Sweden. My question to the forum is, can this be done? What are the rules and regulations regarding the import of used vehicles especially those that do not meet current emission controls? and has anyone done this recently? Is there a feeling within the Rover community that Sweden may follow a similar path as Germany and consider banning older diesels from the road?
What I have read on the web sounds promising, if the vehicle has a current EU registration, MOT and Tax certificate it can be imported albeit the new SE tax may high. Is this true?Given the choice between an expensive high milage 300Tdi and a reasonably priced low milage Td5 which would you choose. I know very little about LR diesels, my only Landy experience has been with the 60’s vintage 2.25 petrols.
Sincerely,

I’m no expert on import but I believe if a car is registred after the start of EU legislation on this, import should be fairly easy. With an older car registred under national legislation it might be a little harder but still doable since the same model has been sold in the swedish market. As EU rules on registation was implemented during the second half of the nineties you are right there in the brake point with theese models. However you might want to listen to others with experience on import rather than listen to me.
Regarding you choice on engine you will get better advice the more information you give.
First of all, what LR model are you thinking of? Both engines are fitted in both Discovery and Defender.
Discovery series II with TD5-engine has loads of other changes than the engine compared to Discovery series I with 300tdi engine.
Defender doesn’t differ as much but there are still more changes than just the engine.
Another thing you should think of is how you are going to use the car. An offroad play toy may differ quite a lot from an every day commuter car.2011-04-10 kl. 21:14 #6279[Originally posted by pjk]
Wow, thanks for the fast reply!
I am looking for a 5dr 110 to use for summer field work in Greece meaning twice a year I will have to haul it down there and back, maybe by train and ferry. My work involves study at high elevations in the mountains there so I guess I would characterize the use as light to moderate off road use. Hauling people and equipment is why I want a 110 over a 90.
All I know about the 300Tdi is that it lived most it’s life in Spain, is LHD and has about 130K kilometers. To be honest I do not even know the year yet (http://www.neneoverland.co.uk/4x4leftha … T02ZMO.htm)
The alternative TD5’s are ex-commercial vehicles, also from Spain, that look pretty clean and simple and much more reasonably priced (http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/detai … =109708523). But as both fuel consumption and the possibility of converting to bio-disiel are important to me I an tending to lean towards the 300 Tdi models.
Sincerely,

And what is the current situation?
We have just imported a car from Spain – no problem. However the process is slow…

If the car is registered in EU, there is no problems what so ever to import it.
UK cars need to change head lights, thats it.
You need some paperwork to show that you are the legal owner of the car and make sure you un-register the car in the UK.

Hi Paul,
hope its not too late, Nene Overland have a rather dubious consumer reputation, if you Google them and then read the comment of a few years back.
But its your choice
