We can use them year round legally (I have a Volvo 6×6 with those) on old vehicles but winter performance is scary.
Only if the vehicle is 30 yo or older. BUT this is under the condition that the journey can take place without compromising road safety in general. Wich I would say never is the case if there is any sort of snow or ice on the road or the temeprature is below +3 degrees C (since there is a high risk of ice forming at certain spots along the road). Also, if you cause an accident (or is involved in one where proper winter tires would have made it possible for you to avoid the situation or limit the damage) under icy or snowy conditions without the proper tires you are at great risk of being held liable.
In my opinionyou should not compromise when you get winter tires. Especially not with an old heavy vehicle without the modern aids in form of ASP, TC etc. Not even in Borås…2008-11-17 kl. 18:54 #6594[Originally posted by 22900013a]

Have a look att Nokan LT or SUV. They are great tires för heavy vehicles.
Cooper Discoverer MT are cheaper, not as good grip, but more value for money.2008-11-18 kl. 00:58 #6596[Originally posted by Wilsby]
He needs 36+" for 16" rims. 9.00×16 equals 255/100R16 and I don’t think he will find 100-profile from the ususal suspects.
I am not aware of any approved winter tyres in this dimension. Truck tyres maybe, but 16" rims is more military than commercial for this size rubber.
If I were buying new rubber, I would look at Maxxis Mudzilla in 37/13.5-16 with some custom studs. But the economical alternative is probably to call arount to Vass and the other UK surplus dealers and try to find a good set of michelins, maybe with the studs in already.

Dunno if you read any Swedish yet, but here is a thread on tyres for Tgb’s in another forum. The right sizes and a few places to get them.

The old Michelin XCL or XS will fit fine, but the new XZLs are too big for the 1 ton and really are a 1000×16 tyre.
I will see what Blanchards and Vass have to say.
